Re: British Seagull 170 remote set up kit

Hi Gaffers
Yup - still available but no it will not fit a 90/110
Different gear change system and nowhere to bolt it to.

Re: British Seagull 170 remote set up kit

Hi John
The 170 remote bits that I have are not a direct fit for the QB - the frame that bolts on to the 170 would have nowhere to screw on to a QB.
The control box is a standard Ultraflex Control Box and would fit lots if not most motors that are set up to take control cables.

British Seagull 170 remote set up kit

I have just converted my Seagull 170 from remote to tiller control and I have the full remote set up available and in guaranteed working condition. It is all original as supplied by British Seagull and in excellent condition.

Conversion Kit -
- remote throttle lever and mounting bracket (a mirror ...

Cheers Rick - that sounds very encouraging. Wheelie Bin #3 gets emptied tomorrow so I'll give it a test in that. I've never noticed this with my 90.

I'm going to give first refusal on the remote set up for a 170 to this forum if anybody is interested - check the "for sale" pages. Includes remote ...

Thanks for the reply Niander.

I took the gear box oil filler plug out and all looks well in there. Oil is up to the correct level and looks very clean.

I replaced its remote set up with a tiller and thumb throttle. With the remote set up, it would have been kept in gear by the tension of the ...

How do you stop a reverse gearbox jumping out of gear?

I have a Model 90 which I have been using for the last 5 years without any problem and recently bought a 170 in almost unused condition.

The 170 and 90 seem to have identical gearboxes but with different props.

My problem is that my 170 will not stay in gear - it engages and drives but if you do ...

Remote cabling for a Seagull 170

I am the proud new owner of a fantastic condition 170. It came with remotes which seem to be an original feature rather than an add on. I'm a bit new to 170's! The throttle and gear change work perfectly after some adjustments. It was supplied with cabling for steering but I cannot see any means of ...

It would be exactly as Seagull intended for a 90 I reckon.

The 90 and 170 had the same gearbox but the prop and drive spring are larger on the 170. I'm not sure what the pitch is on any Seagull prop.

Hi Waggles
The description of the beefed up con rod end cap is on the ID pages for the 170. - http://saving-old-seagulls.co.uk/125_170_series.htm

Bit bizarre reading your thread - I'm in exactly the same situation. Just bought a 170 and picked it up today. It is in stunning condition and came with ...

Waggles - you are quite right. The oil change came from my WSPCL. I reckon there is too much in that jar to fit in the efnr gearbox.

I could not see any cracks in the bore but I take on the points already made about how difficult they are to spot. I put as much light as I could down the bore and ...

Quick update.
All has gone well -
- I've cleared out the rusty water jacket and it was very full. Hard to tell how much was floating around freely - most of it was verrry hard to chip off!
-I took the gearbox off and back flushed to ensure all was clear. As expected, the impellor was very good.
-I ...

A furtle it is then!

Loch Lomond is fresh water and I've never run it in salt, but I suspect the damage was done when I got the motor 5 years ago. I have cleaned out 3 Seagull water jackets and I had presumed this was one of them, but clearly not.

Thanks Charles

Quick update - I found a spare hour this morning and set to.
I removed the non standard brass oval tank that had replaced the leaking steel one - the brass one also seems to have a leak!! Arghhh!

Anyway - on the update. I removed the Cylinder Head with surprising ease although I ...

Thanks
I'm going to do the lot when I can find the time:
- Remove gearbox - check impellor
- Backflush with gearbox removed
- Remove Cylinder Head
- Clean out water jacket
- Clean up head joints
- Replace head with new gasket

I have full set of new gaskets including gearbox shoe so that's not a ...
