*WELL HERE IT IS* - BREAKING NEWS FROM MR UK -

The Thames Ditton Seagull Jolly is on Sat February 21st at 11am

Bugger - I am hoping to be in the Canaries at that moment, but its nearer lots of SOSer's. It is more of a Barby and Burger 1/2 miler get together for Club members than a planned race but they say we are welcome although prizes will be restricted to club members.

They say safety stuff like life jackets should be used - so polish the hull and the race 40 and pump up the trailer tyres!

Polishing my carb as we speak, we will be there !!!

Hope there will be enough time to race prepare my new 102?

Oh well I could always use my R-B-T beating AC.

You will need to get a day ticket for the Thames, that you can buy from the lock keepers I think it is about £8.50 (helps to keep the Enviroment Agency happy). I will probably put in at Walton-O-T public slip. There is free parking and iron fence to chain trailer to.

Hope some of you can make it, if it's not snowing. Do hope that they have a bar!

It seems like they don’t realy want us spoiling their fun. I bet your not aloud in the club house unless you can prove your blood line to the throne. Perhaps Im just sinical of boat club members that give themselfs names like Vice Commadore. Shame on us may be we are just too competitive for them. May be someone’s rumbled our anti PC thread.
If you are going post lots of pikies as im under the Knife on the 16th and wont be going to freeze my bits off watching you all have fun!
By the sound of it i shall polishing my ports for some time.

I'm told there is a slip at the club & warm refreshments between the 3 ventures up the river.

There are no rules as such just common sense, after rain in the catchment area there can be up to 5 knots of current, not the best conditions to have problems in.

So life jackets, bailer, tow rope, mobile phone & a means of propelling your boat when your Seagull no longer sings.
The lower Thames is famous for supermarket plastic bags, they won't hold 6 tins of beans but can kill a Seagull stone dead!

Graham we will have full use of the club's facilities, & I want to be a Rear Admiral & Andy is Midshipman Easy.

We will be going along as guests to make up the numbers.

Whoever you wish to be on the day do us proud and have fun, Now lets see if ive got this right its two up in a craft what about engine size or craft size. I am aware that the rules get lost in translation down under (not wishing to upset out antipidian friends )

Still havent given up on a Humber meet but met with a lot of sucking of teath and tuting (typicaly british thing for i dont think so)
but i will keep plugging away for a date in June but it may be 2010 :(

Can any body give me a clue, are you supposed to register a boat. Whatever will it be next, rights for same sex boats to get marred? That’s the good thing about the sea below low water mark it’s all free. Yes you do have the draw back of flushing when you get home but the advantage is that living on a island your never too far from it.

You should have liability insurance for any boat on the water, it works out about £5 per £100 of what the boats worth, like small tenders and so on, with up to about 10hp outboards.
So for a 6ft tender that a got for free it costs me £5 a year for £3,000,000 liability insurance.

I think you'll find on a club event, we are able to run under the umbrella of their insurance as long as it is not a race!

Liability insurance is for your own boat, which the boat owner has to take out himself, not the club, the liability insurance is mainly for the damage that your boat may do to others.
Thats why you see most sailing boats that can, come out of the water in october, as the liability insurance gose up.

I insure my boat and very expensive seagull, you can do it online and it does not cost much. I have 3 million cover and it only cost £43.00/year.
On my local river you can't buy a licence without insurance. I am also covered for coastal use, anyone not bothering with insurance I feel may be a little foolish.

It is not just the damage you may do to another boat or person, but the recovery of your own craft could cost a fortune!

Think what a little bump with a £1.2 million Gin palace would cost.

OMG ...yes think of all that spilt gin ...environmental catastrophy

I believe, (he says polishing his halo, having just got his glittery 'ticket') that to even float on the Thames you're supposed to have the appropriate license through the very nice people, the very very nice people, at the Environment Agency in Reading

chance of being um..<< picks words carefully >> nicked, remote unless you go through a lock ...day tickets can be bought from a lock keeper ...and they do check for your license ....most seem to have a sense of the reasonable, if not humour, on my stretch of the Thames anyway ...bit like the car ...yeah yeah tax disc in the post

have to admit that the funding garnered does actually seem to go into some expensive though worthwhile improvements

so the 21st it is then ....
'course Charles UK will be there, just to show off his V8 turbo powered 'Gull with nitro kit

trust some of you will be turning up with proper boats.... & not just a sheet of plywood with a bit of a frame on the back
Neal...errrr... an ON, OP, 2xSD, F, 3xSJP, LLS, 2xFV, FVP, FPC, CPC WPCL, WSC, and a few eggs hatching, hopefully
