They do seagull racing

Could be quite easy to win with the speed limit on the Thames

As it is local might try and gatecrash a race, bit like Turbinia at the Royal Navy Spit Head revue

Displacement hull, long and thin bit of lift at speed to reduce drag.
Perhaps I will ditch the Seagull an have a go at steam turbine :)

Well we missed that one then. What is the speed limit? Is this their first or a regular event?
Why are Seagull races held in the winter?

Isn't that bit of the thames tidal?

If not what's the speed limit?

Why do we always get relegated to the worst time of the year, is it that we are the only people considered stupid enough to get wet in the winter!

They probably consider that any seagull operators come from the old school ie tough. They delegate warm conditions to the wimpish.... Take it as a compliment <grin>.

I checked out this location on google earth, there are locks at either end of it, so it's the Thames speed limit, which is 8 K or 5 mph.

Looks like a real nice stretch of river, cruising past Hampton Court's back garden.

Even if they do not want to host a race, it would be a good place for a summer get together and a chug about. All we need is an invite.

If their hoping to keep within the speed limit it’s not going to be much of a race is it? Seems they aren’t aware of the dedication of you winter hardened seagull fiends.
But it’s a hell of a lot closer than Cornwall, :D

I emailed the club:

Dear David
I emailed the club on your set form and it was returned undeliverable, so here goes again.

Each winter I and other hardy Seagull nitwits enter the Seagull Race at Lerryn, Cornwall. It is timed according to tide and has a Fowey River 6kt limit.
One of the Save Our Seagull Forum members has spotted your winter race and of course he lives nearer to you - as will a number of other subscribers.
I would love to trailer from Cornwall to your event next winter (why do they have be in the winter?)
What would be the formalities neccessary to join in?
Yours,
Andy Reid

and he replied:

Andrew,
I have forwarded your details to Dave Nichols and Hazel Aitken, the new membership secretary as I am no longer the membership secretary.

Hopefully they will be able to help. We do have a race soon and I am sure you would be very welcome.

I will leave Dave Nichols to contact you about it.
Thank you.
David

No response so far - but I am surprised our telephonic research king, Ch.UK has not got through yet . . .
