Re: carb
Yip that's it it should move freely just turn it upside down and it should move. When the carb bowl fills up the float will connect with the valve and shut it of...

Re: carb
If the needle is moving in and out then it should be fine to leave alone but if you want the needle out then you have 2 options either take out centre jet or remove the small screw that holds the the flat brass part your talking about its just like a small self tapper.....I'd use long nosed pliers hope this helps

Re: carb
Magic Tam!
If you use the correct sized spanner on the Jet, the chances are you will just remove the jet from the centre piece, if I remember right to remove the centre piece you have to remove the small screw in the throttle slide body then remove the top cap, throttle slide & needle & screw the centre piece further into the carb body & it will unscrew into where the throttle slide resides, the brass plate that hold the needle in place will swing out of the way, releasing the needle. Don't loose the washer!
Correct me if I've missed anything Tam, it's years since I serviced a Villiers carb.

Re: carb
Remember and undo the small screw on the side of carb body the centre jet will most certainly be stiff i tend to put the float bowl nut back on and apply gentle taps and that should free it...hope this helps
DO NOT TRY UNSCREWING IT'S NOT THREADED
