I've recently surveyed a series 1 OA that was 2 away from yours Bruce, they keep turning up!

Most owners refill the gearbox after flushing, with something like SAE 460, by removing the oil nipple & pumping it in with an oil can, a 5 minute job with a warm box.
Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot.

Charles, "a 5 minute job with a warm box"?? I was a mechanic for 24 years and that phrase would have meant something completely different.

I was Very lucky to have picked up two OA's from different sources, numbered 613 and 614

OA 483.

not hijacked, topics should flow across related subjects to maintain continuity.

Interesting re the flushing of the box... Now the carrier and nose cone on 483 is free and can be removed by hand with ease, flushing can be done thoroughly through the back of the box. Obviously from the corrosion in the box internals that was not the case in the past . Agree topping up can easily be achieved through the nipple.

Interesting, although the power head ran sweetly without the gear box attached once the complete motor was boxed up starting became very difficult (fired then stopped).. My thinking is that the clearances on the rebuilt box are too tight, so I will strip down and ease.

otherwise all is good and it should become a reliable motor keen to get it out on the water!!
