102 flies again (before little problems)

Post by robhc1000 »

We took out our 102 tonight on the 10ft boat purchased for her, started first pull, then decided that she was sitting too low in the water (transom is 15") so would only run on shallow drive, got about a mile down river then throttle cable snapped! Managed to get back by pulling snapped cable up and holding up for return journey which was fun!! Then 102 appears to be height adjustable on transom mounting, how high should it be out of water? Is it ok to adjust or should i be looking at a different seagull?

Whats the number that you have on the lower crankcases. It makes it a lot easy for us to help you out if we know exactly what type of 102 you have.

Well it looks like you need a new throttle cable for starters. http://www.saving-old-seagulls.co.uk/bu ... spares.htm

As for the correct height. What you can do is purchase a jubilee clamp, Wrap it around between the bottom of the 2 nut flange that the power head mounts on, and the clamp that holds the driveshaft tube to the transom clamp and slide the motor up until the clamp bolt that holds the gear case onto the driveshaft tubeis just under the water surface and tighten up the jubilee clamp. See how you go with that.

If i adjusted this mount would it do same thing?

Many thanks.

No. At least not if you want to turn the outboard. The jubillee clip goes above that plastic clamp. The "seagull" fix is two of those plastic clamps back to back above that one.
Sadly you cannot do it on a silver century.

Thank you, will look at putting clamp on it, what height should engine be in the water? Is there a more suitable seagull for a 10ft boat with a 15" transom?

As 1650 said, water level to just above where the lower unit clamps to the drive tube.

What a fun little boat. Should be no problem to rig the steering and throttle to the 'captains' chair. You might consider bolting a board to the transom to raise the hieght to match the engine. Tall transoms on short boats is never a bad idea especially when refueling in a swell

Was thinking of bolting a board to transom, boat has cables attached so steering should be ok, how would you go about throttle control at the wheel please?

I think some guys use standard bike cables. Hugz has a couple pics on here of making the lead blob on the ends. Should be pretty easy. Use the Original throttle lever on a tube that fits in a recess at the wheel so you can easily remove it with the motor. I am sure if you move ahead with it someone with more experience then I will chime in and help you out.

You can just use C-clamps to clamp the board on till you are comfortable with drilling holes in your transom. (don't forget to tie the engine on with a lanyard!)

I am totally smitten with that boat, you just need a fold down sun shade and a cooler and your set for some nice days.

Thank you, now would be a good time to move throttle control as origional cable has snapped, will set up a new thread on help section for that. I found boat on ebay, the seller only lived 5 miles from me and i won the auction for £68.05 :D
