Re: Spanner jaw sizes
yes - interseting stuff - sad to be reading about nuts on a Sat night - but my wilder days are over ! He's right on stainless cheap stuff. I bought some stainless A2 self tappers for some fixing on a mates canal boat from Toolstation - I broke one off in the pilot hole with a hand held screwdriver -...

Re: fixing two Century (or at least one)
The leg tube into the gearcase top will not move without heat generally - even with the bolt out its an interferance fit. A lot of heat and tap it off. Getting it back on aligned straight is more a problem - it sometimes helps to tap a wedge between the lugs - and heat it ! Nice tube - brass ? - Wou...

Re: fixing two Century (or at least one)
Those nuts should be 1/4 bsf - which equals 3/16 whit ? Maybe someone has bodged some different nuts on.
Even with the correct spanner some can be a tight fit - Its something I have noticed on seagull fixings ?
Tight nuts ( don't search that phrase ! )

Site needs to change to https - giving all sorts of problems in up to date browsers ? Most browsers now will refuse to connect to http - and when you over-ride setting they are dead slow to load.
Most people when they see ' site is not secure' run away fast ?

Re: bugger!!
Those studs are not that long - about an inch of thread. Also - original seagull studs are not that hard metal. I drilled one out recently. You need to get a good very central center punch mark. Then some good bits. Try to get a 3mm as central and straight as possible - and drill as deep as possible...

Yes - at the time I completely rebuilt it - ie undid and checked everything - even the drive bearing ! ) The jacket was cleaned out with head off as best as I could do or reach ! To be fair it been sitting on the rail of the boat for years ( with a cover on ) - but sat out in salt estuary. The insid...

block surgery
The Wipac Silver Century I had had on the rail of my main boat as an emergency engine got a check over - and a I saw the block was developing a crack right on the impossible to clean area next to the inlet port. Otherwise a good clean block ( I did this engine a few years back as a atrip and re-asse...

Re: fixing two Century (or at least one)
re first one with stuck plug and screw. With no volatile oil in the box - and the plug drilled open - heat will not matter. Get the plug out with heated flat bar - melt it in - let it cool - twist out ? While you still have a useable slot on the screw head - heat it hard. I use a cordless type flat ...

Re: Gasket RTV
Iv'e always used Wellseal - basically an old fashioned resin non hardening jointing. You can get it still ( search Cromwell tools online etc ) Never had a problem with it ( I'm pretty sure its just rosin dissolved in alchohol ? ) Do not like silcones for anything. Horrible to clean off - goes off on...

Re: 40FW Fuel tank stud needed
Yes - my DT2 is 1984 and is points still ! Great engine ( if I'm allowed to say so ! ) The one I bought had a stuffed water jacket ( tried to repair it to no real sucess ) Managed to find a used crancase/bore assembly - but that proved to have stuffed bore ! Luckily ( for £24 ! ) from french marine ...

Re: A little gift
Nice old read that - 1 and 1/4 pints to the gallon is a very heavy mix ? ( thats over 6:1 ) Also - did SD's have a choke flap ? - as there is no mention of using one on starting - cold or hot. I like the advice tip ( adjust throttle screw until it ticks over etc ) and stop it by choking. Are side mo...
