Hi,
Yeah, there are different sizes. Villiers is small! Not sure of exact diameters. Amal 416 carbs have plastic inserts which can change the size of its hole.
Best to ask Charles P or Charles UK or John

Hi,
There are 4 main types of carb
villiers (10:1 or 25:1) round air intake
Bing (25:1) square air intake
Amal 2 jet (10:1 or 25:1) 2 tubes, joined at the bottom
Amal 416 (25:1) Air intake is a cowl, says amal 416 on it!
The LS I think needs a villiers (common, cheap to get on ebay)
The AD I ...

two gulls
Hi,
I have tried this and it doesn't work! Get two the same and make a bar that connects the two tanks together with hinges so you can steer. I have done this for a bit of fun!
I also have a rare amal throttle controller with two controllers! Looks like 2 stuck on top of each other but properly ...

Coolant
Thanks for that Charles!
It is probably better if you insure that the engine coolant flow is good all the time.
Good solution TURN IT OFF! Warm it up before you leave and fit a recoil starter, it will be easy to start when out in the port!

Back flow
Hi Katomi,
I would do it whilst it is not running, although when running, it won't hurt it as unlike modern outboards, it has a solid plastic impeller.
Seagulls are designed to run all day on tick over without cooling water so shouldn't matter, just rev it up once in a while for 15 seconds just to ...

Seagull Servicing etc
Hi,
I know John used to service engines, and not sure if he still does. Apart from him, I don't know anyone who will service Seagulls for the general public who don't know much about them.
I would just like to know who does it apart from me!

Second problem! Drive shaft attached to gearbox
I have another engine with a problem!
The person who ownes the seagull wouldn't fork out £5 for a drive spring so put a few washers and a bit of metal in front of the prop. Well anyway, he must have hit something.
I got the engine, took the drive shaft tube off and the drive shaft had twisted 90 ...

Amal 416 carb, jet blocked with brass!
I sell/service/repair seagulls and am repairing and servicing seagull with an amal 416 carb. Now, the jet is made of 2 pieces. The bottom part (screws to float bowl) is ok. Top part (screws to bottom part and main body) has sheared. It is stuck in the main body with no exposed metal. Is there an ...

Carb and bracket
The position of the carb is VITAL due to the gravity fed fuel and the float which is not brilliant. You can twist the carb on the block if you want but is better to sort out bracket so engine is straight in the water.

This is normal, just jammed around bottom of exhaust pipe and the water cooling tube. I turn the engine upside down, put my fut on the tank and pull the gearbox and wiggle it a bit, it ususally comes off with that although if you don't want to risk denting your tank, just lever the flange above the ...

Tiller raising up
Hi,
Yeah I noticed that in the manual it actually says, you can lift the tiller up as a more acurate throttle!
I think it works, just because as the cable bends, the tension either way just pulls on the carb. end, thus lifting the throttle valve piston up.
For painting, I use hammerite hammered ...
