Re: SD restoration

I can't remember exactly how many hours, but I would hazard a guess at less than 15hrs total.

The result will be good, but not pristine or concours standard.

My rebuild is aimed at a reasonable level of originality, but as I am not aiming at a concours standard I am not going to beat myself up ...

Re: SD restoration

hi oyster, I am surprised no-one has suggested the au natural look, i.e. keeping the steel shaft as it is and working on polishing up the surface. Below is a photo of my Silver Century shaft before clean-up and polishing. The end of the shaft was protected from the worst of the pitting by it's ...

Crankshaft scale

Continuing my Silver Century restoration I noticed this scale on one of the crankshaft lobes. I can easily scrape the scale off, but was wondering what causes this?

Are yiou testing on boat and or in dustbin? I know obvious stuff.

Re: Throttle Lever Retaining Screws

Thanks Vic, I was being a tad lazy in not getting the Micrometer out.

But I suspect you are probably correct. :D :D

Cheers

Throttle Lever Retaining Screws

Hi, I am trying to identify the exact size of the two retaining screws for my Amal twin-jet throttle lever. It sits on a Silver Century WS.

I suspect the screw is a BA 1, the approximate dimensions are 5mm od and 5/16" length with a rounded slot head. Is this about right?

Thanks in advance

Exhaust Tube Cracks

While examining the exhaust tube from my Silver Century - WS I noticed a couple of small hair-line cracks emanating from the grooves that allow the tube to pinch onto the block exhaust spigot.

Is this common? Do they normally keep growing? Can I ignore?

Also, does this exhaust tube have brass ...

Re: Opinion on my pinion

Thanks Charles for your kind offer.

I've now amended my profile to include a couple of things, including where I live. Unfortunately, I live someway from Berkshire and at present have no plans to travel south. I should say though I am presently walking the Thames Path (in stages) from Cricklade ...

Opinion on my pinion

Well not exactly, but it sounded catchy. :D :D

Bought a WS Silver Century a few weeks ago and today finished preparing it to run, which it did after a few minutes.

The engine ran well for about 10 minutes then started to vibrate. I killed the engine and tried to re-start. Managed to re-start ok ...

Re: Throttle Cable termination problem

Thanks Skyetoyman. You kinda solved it. On trying to drill the adjuster out, I freed what was the outer cable sheath cap which had become embedded in the adjuster.

In my defence the state of the cable was pretty ropey, anyway that' s my story and I'm sticking to it :D :D

Throttle Cable termination problem

I am probably being very thick here, but I cannot see how I can swap over the throttle cable adjuster to my new cable I purchased from John last week for my Silver Century. :( :( The new cable does not come with an adjuster. I could desolder the lead bullet-end of the new cable and resolder when I ...
