.... water through put

Post by pdc1@tesco.net »

On both my Century 100 and Forty plus the water flow rate is less when used on my 24' sailboat than on my tender. It must be because the tender has more speed and the ram pressure at the water intake slots is greater. Therefore is it a good idea to add more or open the slots to increase pressure to get better flow rate so I can use the engines on the bigger boat ??

thanks pete c

No. I would not recommend enlarging the water intake slots. They are there to protect the pump impeller. As long as you are not getting steam out of your engine block outlet don't worry. These little old engines run a bit cold anyway. Although I have never attempted to renew a broken impeller it may be tricky due to the bolts being corroded into their threads and you may cause more damage by removing them. as the old sayings go: "Leave well enough alone" and "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

Have fun with your Seagulls and don't worry.

Regards.

Water thru put.

Post by pdc1@tesco.net »

I had a problem with my century pumping a thin water stream when on my achilles 24 and a good thru put on my small dingy. The difference was i thought the ram pressure at the slots due to the faster water speed in the dingy.

I added two more slots to increase the ram pressure and this has worked extremely well.
