Great piece of history.

On page 2, in the list of spares, it specifies the spark plug as a Sintox C3. This is a Lodge plug. Did the SD's have Lodge from the factory or was this just the army spec for the replacement? I can't recall this plug being mentioned in any of the posts I've read.

Nice old read that -
1 and 1/4 pints to the gallon is a very heavy mix ? ( thats over 6:1 )
Also - did SD's have a choke flap ? - as there is no mention of using one on starting - cold or hot.
I like the advice tip ( adjust throttle screw until it ticks over etc ) and stop it by choking.

Are side mounts common - never seen one or seen one for sale ?

Good basic advice there also for problem starting a flooded 2 stroke.

I did invent a little thing that kept a throttle lever at tickover but flipped off to stop it - but I lost my drawing and cannot remember what it was. I will have to re-invent it

No choke just a 2" trumpet, chromed or bare brass.

There are pics on here of wartime side mount brackets but they were designed for specific military boats so need modification to work on modern gunnel & transom styles.

Remember there were no 2-stroke oils available pre 1950, apart from racing castor oil so a bit of extra 30 weight motor oil was probably playing safe!

Thanks Rennie, this is an example of a wartime bracket that has been modified for use on a transom, but has a side mount thrust block, but would work on a conventional gunnel.
