Hi,

There are 4 main types of carb

villiers (10:1 or 25:1) round air intake

Bing (25:1) square air intake

Amal 2 jet (10:1 or 25:1) 2 tubes, joined at the bottom

Amal 416 (25:1) Air intake is a cowl, says amal 416 on it!

The LS I think needs a villiers (common, cheap to get on ebay)
The AD I think needs an Amal 2 jet (quite rare due to threads shearing easily)

Someone please confirm, not entirely sure.

Hi,

Yeah, there are different sizes. Villiers is small! Not sure of exact diameters. Amal 416 carbs have plastic inserts which can change the size of its hole.

Best to ask Charles P or Charles UK or John

Ally is quite right - there are four, or at least there are four after World War Two...

The Villiers is the one for the LS. This motor is the original version of the Forty Plus.

The AD - a 102 - used the same 2 jet Amal carb that Seagull favoured for decades on 102s and Silver Centuries. The one on your example would have had the cowl without a choke. I have no idea why!

The later Amal is a good carb, and will fit, but it would be a shame to put a modern carb on a mid 1940's motor.
