Yes, basically parting out 3HP OMC just to get workshop organised as it has stopped raining and after the Jan 2013 move etc.

Seized Folder lots of good parts.

Also other stuff and found a good prop with intact hub for another I have

So, found one of my original 67s and plonked the prop assy on it. This is why it never got much use as the hub was defective from way back. I decided to tune it up never having pulled it apart, everything was really cool!

I checked the ignition as you do and guess what? Sparks all over the place? Looked deeper and something for all of us here.

The points spindle lubrication had dried out so the points were basically stiff and not snapping back following the cam.

Cleaned it all up with new lubricant and OK.

Points should be serviced so that they follow the cam. How often do we neglect this I wonder?

Nice one. I've always thought that folding bottom end was a good idea. Does it actually work?

YEP they work very well with lots of extra fiddly parts not that hard to service.

They have a weak point in that the "Hinge" foldable bit is basically a roll pin. They do not take kindly to being knocked about the pin.

Everything else is well engineered.

The fasteners or lever/screws are robust and must be done up tight.

The coolant interface where they fold has to be well lubricated of course.

Many Many extra bits all good.............just the roll pin Hinge.

Here is a pic of a 67 Johnson folding faces. Intricate but as I said above.

They all fold well.

I do like the OMC twins, it could be said they were the best motors made at that time.

I have a none folding one couple of years earlier, at the front of the heap.

Needs a couple of coils.

I had a couple of these and sold them. The white and grey was a Johnson thing that I love.

They used red as a hilight.

I think the 6hp was the best they made, as I have said before "if you do not have on buy one".

They are great value at the moment.

1966 6Hp................yep, sweet they are and I put a great deal of effort into this one



I think I see that I wrote October 2010/11 on the flywheel when I finished the rebuild. The red on the flywheel nut also means that it is ready to go. Better than a tag that may fall off. Totally sweet motors, idle all day fishing.

I have yet to finish the cowl which is painted. Decals are somewhere? Probably in a BOX still.

Well Done. Thats cleaned up very well. Those early Johnson Evinrudes are a smooth running motor for there vintage.
