Saving Old Seagulls

Hi, I have two of the plastic type fuel caps with the metal breather screw. Both leak from the breather screw when laid down on their side, even though the screw is tight. What is the cure for this? It's an annoying problem!

A new set of washers from John should do the trick, but dismantle the cap first to check there are no cracks.
