Ever since i was a kid i enjoyed pulling things apart to work out how they work and how they were built.
Just started looking at my Seabee today, first problem was the recoil starter cord.
The rope comes out but only retracts half of it. So i took it apart...... Twaaanngggg.
I've given it all a good clean as it was gummed up.
How do you get them back together?

I have never done a seagull one, wouldn't want one.
When it comes to recoils, some people can do them and some just can't and end up with the spring all over the place.
All I used to do at one point was recoils, Honda's, from the middle of the Thames to a hundred feet under the Thames, all over the country
I would have to drive a hundred miles to fix an engine and all it would need was a new pull cord and to replace a pull cord would took less than a minute to do.

Cheers Keith, it's a jap seabee one that I took apart. I'll get it together but wondered of anyone had any tips or tricks.

I have a complete one about, with tank and cover.
Some can be a pain, like B&S, Honda is simple to do, remove old string/cord and make new one up, wind up spring and line cord holes up, thread string/cord though from outside in, knot it up and let go.
Some others you can do this way, not all, if you can see the knot, them you can do it the Honda way, just remember to but the pull handle the new cord first, before for you let go.
Job done.

Ah sorted.
I wound the spring around the bottom plate, then inserted the plate and spring into the casting.
I cut the knot of the end of the pull cord and wrapped the cord fully around the start pully.
I then inserted the start pully into the assembly, tightened the bolt securing it all together, gave it a couple of turns and popped the start cord out and attached the pull handle.
Sorted.
