I am new to this site, and need urgent help. I have a silver century plus with clutch drive, and it will only produce a dribble of coolant even at high revs in neutral. i have tried clearing the tell tale and intake pipe and have had no joy, what can you suggest.
Have you tried back flushing with garden hose into the outlet. Or soaking in Iron descaler? Failing that you probably need to remove head and scrape the water jackets clean. I had one like that but put if off until a rainy day and came back to find the side of block cracked and distorted....
Do try back flushing as suggested. I'm sceptical about limescale removers, mainly because while they're very good at removing limescale that's not what you find clogging the waterways usually.
If back flushing doesn't work it'll need stripping down and the waterways cleared. Sometimes it's soft brown stuff that'll easily be dislodged with gentle probing, more usually (especially in Poole Harbour) it'll be iron hard black stuff that has to be painstakingly chipped out using a small hammer and a suitable chipping tool - I use an electrical screwdriver that has a beefy handle and a hard tip.
Remember the studs holding the head on are not metric, they're BSF. Be careful and you should be able to use the head gasket again.
