capacity of gearbox

Hi, can anybody tell me the quantity of oil to fill a featherweight gear box to the correct level.

Not very much.

Originally the instructions were to lay it down to fill it but to leave some air space

Now they say fill it so that the oil level is level with the bottom of the filler hole when its standing up right

My rule of thumb is to lie the motor down & fill the gearbox until the oil just covers the crownwheel

Both the above are correct.

I prefer the vertical myself but that is just easier for me.
