No Spark

Hi All,
A friend gave me an old Seagull WSPCL890AA7 as it was not working, I have replaced the spark plug but still do not get any spark at the plug when held against the cylinder, i have put a multimeter on the HT lead and it does register some movement when the wheel is turned, I have cleaned the points but not replaced them yet, next thought would be the HT lead, am i going down the right route ?
