I have a 40- SJM model with an odd carburetor fuel connection/fuel tank, etc.

Is this Villiers carb. fuel hose connector (see picture) a standard part that can still be purchased?

Yes that is a Villiers,

If you buy item 33 in the parts diagram it comes with the unions.

If you want a new one then i would highly reccomend John who runs this site. http://www.saving-old-seagulls.co.uk/bu ... spares.htm

Unfortunately part 33 with the unions won't work for me. I need the carb fuel connector with the barbed nipple as shown in my picture. Either that, or I need a standard 40- SJM fuel tank with the tap on the port side of the tank. When I bought my 40-SJM it had a red cylindrical tank held on with metal bands that kept coming loose. I was able to buy a used Seagull fuel tank that mounted securely, but the tap is on the starboard side of the tank, so I have a longer fuel line with a stop cock in the middle of the line. see below

I'd rather have a standard 40- tank and then I could use the standard Seagull fuel line, but it seems like most of the available tanks are in the UK and that they can't be shipped overseas for security reasons?? Is that right?

At any rate, is it possible to find a barbed nipple fuel connector for the 40- Villiers carb. (as shown in my first post pic.)?

Ah i understand now.

I would assume that your banjo bolt end is the same as the as the one included in the original assembly. But i can't say for sure without cutting one of mine. I bet one of the others knows for sure. I would then like to know if it's possible to buy new crimp ends to replace the fuel pipe.

As for your fuel tank i haven't seen one with the fuel connector on the opposite side to the carb, but i am a novice in the seagull world.

Lastley over posting a fuel tank, i don't know. Check with John as i bet he knows. Then if it is alright he could give you a price.

I did post an inlet manifold with twin carbs to the states once. It was heavy and cost about £60 and took ages through customs.

I've had a tank sent over to Oz from England. Try you local lawn mower man for carb parts.

If John at SOS does not have those unions, try George at villiersparts.co.uk He can supply a lot of Villiers items. Alternatively, why not reverse the tank? I'm not sure having a fuel pipe running across the cylinder head is a good idea..

Failing all that, why not fit the tank the wrong way around, that's if you just want a working Seagull, instead of an ornament!

Not sure because it was several years ago, but I don't thing the tank fit turned the other way around.. those little nobby things interfered with the flywheel. She's not an ornament. She's a working girl.

I had the same prob with a tank, just drilled a hole on other end of tank & sweated a threaded brass fitting to screw tap into, fited brass plug in to the other fitting.

When cleaning up my Featherweight tank I noticed that it has an option for either end. Never thought anything about it till now.

Interesting.

It appears you have a Century tank, therefore fuel tap on wrong side. I have a '68 featherweight tank that is reversible, bumps on both sides, decal on sideways. There are also tanks with taps both sides, had a plastic 1 gal. one like that. So it appears you need a tank from a Villiers carbed Century or a villiers carbed 40 series.

If you don't have clearance when the tank is on in reverse, can you grab the tank and pull it in the direction of the spark plug [backward] till you have clearance? This should work if it is close to having clearance.
