I have noticed on the famous online auction site that Seagull spares are very expensive.
The last two seagulls that I have bought cost £19 and £15 .
There are transom brackets for sale with starting prices of £30 and fuel taps with BIN price of £15.
Why are there not more reasonably priced spares available? These engines are not rare, so second hand bits should be reasonably priced.
It would be worth stripping good engines to sell the parts.

Why does the sum of the parts exceed the cost of the whole ?

Ah well the famous auction site is now well known for being hard to get a bargin.
I've sold some right crap on there for good money. One mans rubbish and all that.
I've also struggled to sell some what i consider good items.
How much is something worth? As much as someone is willing to pay.
Since i got intested in Seagulls i have been checking out the site every week and as yet haven't seen a bargin.

yes i agree with you some people are trying to make alot of money from breaking good engines to sell as spares,
but im sure there must be some bargains out there somewhere, realistic prices are ok but some just take the mick.

This is interesting in that, back in 1978, when the first Holden Commodore was released...........there was a study done.
Base price of a six pot sedan was about the $6,000.00 mark.
To build exactly the same vehicle out of parts from GMH?
A staggering $122,00.00!
Sell the product and live off the repairs ever after!

Having worked for Leyland Motors for £25 (20 odd years ago) Standard pricing on spares was 6 times cost price.

Bloody hell.... Now 10% of the sale goes to a very worthwhile charity but look at the prices.

Oh ....I don't know, the hand full of rusty screws looks a bargain at £25.
After all, these parts have been"tested"
The bent up old sea bee in boat motors and engines looks a snip at only £250+25 p+p
(Its the only one I have seen with"Bosh electronic ignition").
Think the site has been taken over by chavs, ere just nicked this out a shed.
Coor that must be wurf fasands init, M8.
Now you have got me going, one thing I hate is when I ask a question about an item listed
and the response message starts with- Ay mate.
NEVER BUY IT.
Mis speled wordin in dcryption.
NEVER BUY IT.
If they cant be botherd to spell check listing, chances are they couldn't be botherd to look after the item.
Shudder to think how many, bed spanner wielding, ignorant, people there are out there, who can only
be out to make a fast buck.
These people must be destroying many old items, and not just outboards.INIT
Very sad that an education system that once turned out mechanically minded lads, looking for an apprenticeship
is now producing a stream of .....of......of......Muppits.INIT?
Then again why buy and restore something to good running order, when it is worth more as parts?
