I have a 1964 CPC, not outwardly abused, but with a compression reading of 52 psi. Is this acceptable? It starts, runs and idles very well so my question is borne more out of curiosity than real concern. Is there a "rule of thumb" number, say 40 or 45 psi, below which a rebuild is considered necessary? And for a small block Seagull engine? What would be a "good " number and a "threshold" number?
For the sake of discussion, let's say a rebuild is warranted. The engine is torn down, the cylinder is honed, but with no oversized replacement pistons or rings available to compensate for cylinder wear, is there any gain to be had?
These are questions I go off to sleep with at night.
When To Rebuild?

Re: When To Rebuild?
If it aint broke ..dont fix it!
is the way with these
but there are good second hand blocks/pistons etc to be had
if needed...from my experience so long as they have the 10/1 oil mix
they dont wear out!
