Help me bring this seagull back to life

Post by Marcelo »

Hello,

I have just received from a friend a kind of an odd gift. A non-functional British Seagull outboard numbered: EFNRL 83GGO. I just discovered it's a
series 90, 5HP, long shaft electronic ignition July 1980 model.
It is not working and I (WE) will make it work! I count on you help and comprehension because my english is not so good...

One part with problems is the Wipac Ignition. I just found a pic of the part on your site: http://www.saving-old-seagulls.co.uk/fa ... sembly.jpg What is the part number for this? John just answered my email telling this part does not exist NEW anymore. I will have to buy it used, then.

Other problem is with the fuel tank. It has oxidated on the inside. Is is possible to change the arrangement and place a connector to external tank? I mean, as far as I will have to work on this part as well, I was wondering if I can connect a external (20 or 30 litter) gas tank to it. Do you know the part number for the fuel tank? Is it possible to find this part? Is it possible to connect external fuel tank?

Thank you so much for your help and attention.
Best regards from Rio de Janeiro,
Marcelo

Hello!!

I came back to the project of bringing that outboard to life and am in need of a WIPAC ignition. Does anyone have a spare part or know how to use alternative parts? A friend of mine who is helping me out and knows something about mechanics and electicity told me 2stroke engines are so simple it can (and should) be easily replaced by any motorcicle parts, but I am scared that wont work. Is that true, may we start trying out changing parts? What specifically does this WIPAC part do? Any suggestions?

Thanks a lot!

If you send it back to John he can supply an exchange unit, the unit you have is a Wipac white CDI, only the white one will fit your motor without changing the flywheel.
Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot.
