Electric Seagul hybrid?

Post by colgul »

Hi all

I know that the very idea of this will send some of you Seagull purists into a dicky fit, so I apologise in advance!
I have a number of bits of seagulls in my shed, and it crossed my mind to use the propeller, gearbox and prop shaft off an old Seagull, and replace the defunct engine with an 12v electric motor with suitable control electronics. I wondered if any of you have attempted this, or have heard of such a motor?

Yes Vic - exactly like that.
Does it work, what motor did you use, and how fast does the motor need to rotate? - I figured up to about 1000rpm would be OK.
Thanks

Cant answer your questions but this was on the scrap heap at the same time. Clearly, from the fuel tank, some Seagull derivative. Maybe it produced the power to drive the outboard.
