Hello, thoroughly enjoying looking around and reading all the excellent help being given.
I'm currently tinkering with my newly acquired 1963 Century Long Shaft.
I've made up a new throttle cable, cleaned the gunk out of the carb, made up some cork gaskets for the fuel cap and am now turning my attention to the ignition.
I've got some copper cored HT lead and an NGK plug cap with a 5k resistor built in. Is this suitable, or should I be getting an original one?

I've been running a suppressed lead for about the last 10 years with no problem. I *finally* put a new lead on as the plug cap had unscrewed itself and dropped off half way up Faversham creek but didn't want to cut the new leadf to refit the suppressor. We'll see if there is any difference in performance or reliability this season, but I wouldn't automatically discard suppressors of around 5K.
Why not try it without the plug cap first (bare wire attached to the plug by the screw on nipple then try the NGK cap and see if you notice any difference? If the coil and plug are in decent condition you'll probably be quite happy with a suppressor in circuit. OTOH with a 'basket case' coil and an antique plug you cant afford any extra losses . . .
