sealing the crankcase 1/2's ?

Post by timberman2004 »

40 plus burbling away in the seagull test and evaluation facility

on inspection, having first got a heady lungfull or 2 of smoky seagull 'droppings', I noticed that there were tiny bubbles / foam forming on the crankcase 1/2's joint nearest to the block ..but only just 15 mm back from the block face, rest was fine

need to be concerned? or leave well alone ?

This will no help it in the long run, it will bubble on tick-over and could pull air in at higher revs, so not to good in the long run, but it can be fixed.

presumably dismantle, clean both 1/2's of the clamshell thoroughly, and reassemble with Hylomar blue to seal ??

That'll do the trick.

I wonder how many Seagulls just go on year after year merrily blowing bubbles and oozing oil from their crankcases?
