Hear here Gerard

Thanks for the lesson, but the moderators on S O S take a delicate approach, our aim is to let our members educate each other about the technical details & quirks of the Seagull product range in a light handed friendly manner.

We don't jump all over members who post wildly innaccurate comments on question that they obviously have little knowledge about, we welcome their input in the hope it will promote a friendly disscusion that will eventualy arrive at the correct answer.

It was only a post to show the testing of a Villiers coil and to that end, its a good video and didn't need the put down.

Ok the coil is the wrong length, will it fall out, I would say not, its the right core size and if it came loose it would only go into one of the ears, and that's all.
It has no way to fall out and no I wouldn't use an undersized coil myself and he is not telling you too.
Its just an old sloper for display and will just be doing a gentle tick over.
I have seen a lot worse things running at rallies.

back to the thread .

As the ends of the cheap ebay coils look like 7/16ths wouldn't they need the spacers similar to George at villiers SD replacement coils. ie 9/16ths
In which case two washers to make up discrepancy in coil length and two sleeves slightly longer so that they would pass under both screws in the cheeks.
Do the long cheeks have screws underneath ?

If the coils are 9/16 ths then just a one washer is need to prevent wander

I agree it's a possibility, but does it matter, the benign dictator will only put his foot down if it becomes a problem or if it turns into a very obvious p*ss take.

But the coil could rotate Keith, the grub screws are there to hold the coil in the correct position with regard to the HT connector, with Georges spacers the grub screws should be tight enough to prevent this rotation by squeezing the spacers, if they are the right design it can't move sideways.
Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot.

Yes I do understand that the coil could rotate, or even come loose, but it could not physically come out, with no damage, just a lose of spark.
should have Just use the right coil, to start with.

This above is basically a "Flash" in the pan aye?

It is all mute discussion because "Flash", as he seems to be, has not bothered to attend post post?.

He must be American and chooses not to vote maybe but, that is up to Him or Her.

Thus, lets get back to having a good time without this rubbish.

Charles and Charles, stop commenting with Green OK?

Creche on a transom this topic!

Seagulls remember?

Why should "The Boss" get involved with this then.

Maybe because Moderation is................More comment fueling?

Nuts and I am no follower of Flash from no on.

Just my thorts mates!

Guys, is it not about time to leave this thread. Let's keep things friendly, remember we're here to enjoy these wee engines.

So, out of all this, some of you think aye and some say nae. Ok, move on now.

There is nothing wrong with what has been posted by Flash. What should be of most concern particularly with the asymetrical placement of the coil is the area of contact for the magnetic flux. Is this sufficient?
