magneto tops
Neal...errrr... an ON, OP, 2xSD, F, 3xSJP, LLS, 2xFV, FVP, FPC, CPC WPCL, WSC, and a few eggs hatching, hopefully
Oh I do so wish that people would ask me things where I actually know the answer!
Post war, the magneto mcovers on all the 102 motors was just dead plain, and I believe that was the case with the first Little Model Forties in 1949.
Then they all had the 'in the World' covers.
I think it was about 1955 ish that the 'for the World' appeared.
Somewhere in my gargantuan archive I have notes of when the advertising changed - from memory it's 1954/5 - because I went through every copy of every advert in my collection. I gleaned this lot from the back numbers department of IPC magazines, who were very good to me. They gave me a desk and free rein with their photocopier. What I can tell you is that some adverts continued for months with the 'in the World' wording after the introduction of the 'for the World version, which to me indicates that this was not the result of some court case.
But just like every possession this information is stacked high in the main bedroom, because Chateau Charlesp is undergoing the final phases of a major (plaster inwards) refurbish before Current Primary Woman moves in over the next couple of weeks. It's last-two-bedrooms-being-carpeted day tomorrow, it's been a long haul. My pad is unrecognisable.
That should explain my relative unavailability for the recent past. That and the sudden sale of my boat, where I succumbed to an offer no sane person could possibly refuse. I also succumbed to a new craft (new to me that is, she was built in 1975). You can imagine the conflict - play with new boat or undercoat the bedroom!
I should be back in orderly office mode soon.

In the World top covers
Agree with Charles, but have seen them on slightly later ones and the 'for' the world on earlier ones...
I reckon that each engine builder had a bin full and when they ran out they stopped fitting them. Or then someone put some new ones in the top of the bin and eventually the old ones came to the top again!
would not surprise me.
Regards,
john
