Hi guys - first of all, many thanks for all your excellent advice so far, My FP is back in running order, clear cooling stream, lovely start etc. only problem is that it will only run with the carb intake open - opening and closing the throttle makes no difference to running, even though the needle moves up and down when you look throught the carb air inlet. When I close the carb inlet fully the engine dies - any ideas where to start?
P.S its a villiers carb..

Check that the carb is correctly assembled.
DIAGRAM
needle adjust screw should be flush with the top of the piston or down upto a turn.
centrepiece/jet assembly should be fitted with washer under its head and with the locating screw in the slot in its head, not the round hole.
Check that when the float closes the needlve valve there is 7/32" between it and the underside of the carb body
Make sure the jet assembly is properly clean. Poke a piece of soft copper wire through if necessary.
The shutter on the carb inlet is the choke. It should be open except for starting!

thanks for this advice - I have done all of this, with a great result, FP now giving a nice frothy dustbin full on command! I had noticed a little bit of bubble blowing from the crankcase, but will see how it runs on the water....
Thanks again for this great forum!
