the transom height is not the height above water level as quoted by someone above but the height from the bottom of the boat to the top of the transom.. and you measure the motor from the cavitation plate to the inside of the mounting clamp.......

If you have a pod and your boat planes you lift the motor 2 inches for every 6 inches of pod length

I give you this information because I know many of you have modern engines as well and one of the biggest problems with planing hulls is people having he motor too deep ....

If you have a long shaft on a boat intended for a shortshaft you may get very tippy sensitive steering due to the leverage .....

We see all these problems daily here at the Noosa Prop Shop .

Already given in a nice diagram in the link I gave earlier but its all about setting it up for planing.

Not really not much more relevant to a Seagull driving a hull at displacement speed than it is to the outboard on my small sailing cruiser.

Neal I'd like to explain my backpedaling with regard to the contents of your collection.

After meeting your HID the sunday before last & hearing her description of your flock
"Guano would have a greater value, at least it has a use as fertiliser!",

I realised that single handed I would not have the ability to do justice to your collection of maritime relics, hence my reluctance to commence what would be several years work.

I did notice such a heretical comment was made out of my earshot though

it does raise the point though....machines that the HID's of the world enjoy are electrically driven ....sewing machines, washing machines, dryers, ovens, dishwashers and so on

where as blokes, REAL blokes, well, petrol or at least diesel, even coal for steam, has to be the principle ingredient ...(with the possible exception of drills, grinders and lathes )....interesting
