silver century plus clutch problem

Post by seararer2009 »

Can anyone give me some advice? Every time I engage the clutch on my engine it stalls (in water under load) - this seems to occur regardless of the throttle setting at the moment of engaging the clutch. also, should the clutch be eased in, i.e. slippped slightly, or sharply engaged?
Many thanks for any help!

your clutch should just be bashed in/out. If it stalls the motor then you have a gearbox problem. Others will help you with that but its just a case of strip and free up and hope for the best that damage is repairable.

can you turn the prop shaft even a bit [the SHAFT not the prop]?
have you looked for oil in the box?

Thanks for your replies fellas. Well, It looks like it was just a power issue. I cleaned out the tank this morning, refilled with fresh mix, cleaned filter, plug, carb etc - and as well as running far more evenly, when I banged the clutch in, the prop just took the power nicely in the water, so all went well. Sorry if I wasted your time, when I should have done these checks at the outset. Great to have a clutch again!
