Well it was back to the drawing board after river trials with MKI.
It floated well and we paddled it about without getting wet, but for use by young kids it was far too "Tippy".
So MKII will be much flatter, slightly wider beam and a bit longer.
The engine is the latest EF that I have restored (now I only have two Seagulls in bits)
Will post pictures of MKII when it is built.

MKII went together well, am checking the Portage ability
The final lenght came out at 9' 7"
It is looking much better than MKI, soon be on the river

I do a lot of fibre glass here in aus ..and find it difficult to get the mat to go over right angle external edges
,,BUT if you pull a length of cling film over the edge it pulls it in tight ,, in this case a length from stem to stern along he chine line will hold it in tight and give a sharp edge...similar technique for the transom edges ...
A length of angle iron or ali wrapped in cling film is also good for right angle edges to push the resin matt tight ..

For the Stitch and Glue method that I have had good results with, I use close weave fibreglass tape. I fillet on the inside with thickened resin, and then tape the outside joints. Finally I then sheath the whole of the outside with fibreglass tissue. This is very fine and follows the chine line with no problems.
The tissue even though it is very thin will on its own make the hull surprisingly more rigid, and give better impact protection for little additional weight.
I can see if you use chopped mat for sheathing the outside you could have problems with it not bending over the chines, but chopped mat for a boat this size would be a bit rough. If I was looking for a heavier fibreglass covering I would use woven matt.

It floats, we have had the whole family in it and it goes very well.
Stuck an EF on the back and away she went. Much more stable than MK1, and still light enought to carry at 30KG.
Kicked out all of the family and had a go on my own, would not quite get on the plane but went well.
Now need to paint ready for Thames do.
Should go well with a 102 on the back.

I think I preferred the plywood bonnet, & as an Austrailian member stated "nice legs" shame they're not on display.

It is finished, could do with another coat of paint but that can wait till after the weekend.
Now I just have the problem of which engine to use on it.
This one is running very well, tank tested it today after I got it back together.
Will bring the cut down SD for Neil to have a go with.

Used it for a week on the Norfolk Broads with an EF, ran well. Did a 36 mile round trip one day with the support boat.
Number one son was much happier with a better engine
(at least he could start it!!)
We will take it down to Studland at the weekend to see if we can catch some fish, with an EF not the fantastic Jap crap
Now working on a much longer one for Christmas Race (RBT be worried)
