Amal 2jet leaking

Post by silcen1 »

Hello every one, first post on hear so thanks for any help in advance...

I am looking at a Silver Century, is fitted with the amal 2 jet carb, my question is, should there be a gasket/shim fitted under the float chamber cap? I know it isn't shown on the drawing (SOS website).

The reason for asking is that with the cap screwed fully down the float does not travel high enough to shut off fuel completely (ie needle valve is passing) this leads to fuel leaking right through the carb and spilling from the air intake.

With the cap backed off a couple of turns the fuel does not flow, I've not had a run yet as I wanted to get this sorted first...

Again cheers for any help!

Sitting here looking at the carb again, I see that the float is meant to engage on a recess on the needle, mine had riden high, so I think Ive sorted it!

From what you describe I suggest you look at the position of the float on the needle. I almost sounds as though the float is not correctly allowing the inlet valve to seat.

Does the spring catch on the float engage in the groove in the needle?
