Anzani pilot
Would anyone have a mk2 or mk3 pilot longshaft for sale ? Or did they even make one ? Any help gratefully received , thanks

Not that it is for sale but, yes, they made a long shaft.
Compared to the usual. Usual is 52-pre 60.
Long one has fin on gearbox. 47-50ish.
The casting number (NOT the engine number) has the date. I have mentioned this before many moons ago.

Hi , thanks for the photos and information
I do have a longshaft mk1 similar to yours , I'm wondering if they did one with the cast leg as I could do with the extra hp , I think the mk3 was 3 hp

The MK3 was introduced in 1958 and was 2.5hp. It was about the mid 60s when the 3hp appeared as a Mk4 and the Mk5 had the 'P' shaped steering hoop with tiller.

Thanks for that , I think any of the later cast leg models would do me power wise but I've yet to see a longshaft . Perhaps they only made them with the tubular leg ?

I've just bought an Anzani Pilot and I wondered if anyone could give me any pointers of what to do before starting it for the first time?
I am a complete novice with outboards and in fact the Anzani is just to practice on because I don't want to damage the (much more expensive) Seagull I'm about to buy.
The Pilot has, apparently, been sat in a shed for a few years but ran before that. I've started by taking the gearbox apart. Everything moves smoothly, but the gasket needs replacing and I wondered if the marine grease should look like this? There is, what seems to be, sand in the water intake pipe, so I need some ideas on how to check if I have got it all out?
Other than that, this end looks good and just needs some cleaning up I'm hoping to get the fuel tank off, and have a poke about under there, this weekend.
Any advice would be most welcome

Welcome aboard.
You seem to be doing just fine...gently gently the way to go.
Clean the gearbox and refresh grease by hand etc. Not packed to the max just leave some air.
I am interested in the recoil starter?
I suspect an add-on at some stage.

I've got the spark plug sparking, which seemed to be the only major problem. I've got to clean out the fuel tank, as there is loose rust in there (and no fuel filter?).
Then I'll get some petrol in it and give it a go.
