Good Day,
I like many others would like to get hold of an original bayonet type fuel cap.
They are very scarce.
Second best is getting hold of a similar 2" cap, unfortunately no breather.
As with the original item, this is made by the same company in Wolverhampton, Ceandess.
Although they do not have stock at the moment the part number is 02578004CAB.
I thought this information may be useful for those in need of a cap.
Maybe if there is enough demand they will make another batch.
It is flat topped, chrome finnish as has no breathing hole. It is the correct base to fit a look alike breather to , to match the original.
Under Wanted, under the topic SD Tank, Oyster 49 kindly placed quite a few photo's of a manufactured breather which could be copied and fitted to the cap mentioned above.
Hope this info is useful to those hunting the elusive bayonet cap.
I was fortunate to find such a flat topped cap at a vintage motor bike shop, they were used on some vintage bikes oil reservoirs.
Regards
Dickon

Re: Bayonet flat cap
They do turn up on ebay!
Can somebody post a picture of the underside of the cap to illustrate the shape of the brass washers (splash guards) on an original cap.

Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot.

There are plenty of these blank caps around, most classic British bike parts suppliers have stock of them they list at approx £22-24 or thereabouts.
