Have no tank on my AD so would be interested to know the size ...looks like 4 in dia but the lenth ...???
And the spacing of the two pegs on the rear would be useful too

You mean you've sent her over here just to get you a tank? Wow those sheilas really know how to keep a man happy!
Dimensions for an AD are same as a standard 102 brass tank, so any will do. I can't remember if they had a bayonet fitting in 1947, I'll have a look when I get to my workshop. I'm staying with current primary woman tonight, who is whisking me into hospital tomorrow morning for a shoulder decompression, so it'll be tomorrow evening earliest.
How were you planning to fabricate the ends?

OA length 285mmpistnbroke wrote: .....I need length and diameter so I can make one up ......!!
Length of middle section (OA less dished end caps) 220mm
Outside Diam 115 mm
Distance between "rear pegs" centres 161mm
My TC tank is a little bashed but a tape around the circumference came out at 362mm measured so the diam is within a mm or so. Hope that helps.

Well done, Ray..
I have just staggered down to the workshop, and got a different set of measurements, so I'll submit them here and where there's doubt we'll go with yours!
Overall I made it 11 inches, the cylindrical bit in the middle I made 9 1/2 inches, and the diameter 4 1/2 inches.
There is a radius at the join between cylinder and end cap. The end caps are dished, of course; you can get that with a bit of geometry I guess. At this sort of date the detail dimensions and tank end joint radii show a number of variations.
The little pegs are 6 inches apart, and as you will know they carry on internally until butted onto the opposite side of the tank interior.
The AD I looked at has a bayonet fitting cap; for export they changed to a screw fit after AD2930. I guess yours may have had plated steel tank straps, it's not quite clear when that changed from Jubilee clips.
An early AD would have had the gold, white and grey Seagull in a cartouche design of decal, with the relevant mixing instructions facing the operator.
Originally they were silver soldered, with the solder taking up the seam for a smooth surface.
