sorting the 1947 AD and note on diagram there is a seal above the water pump ..I dont have one so can anyone tell me what it was made from ? Was it split in two halves or if no how is it fitted ? My square drive rod seems very will rusted to the gearbox shaft !!!
Looks like another job for the lathe !!!
thanks in advance

If you refer to:

Is the part you are referring to number 1370?
If not, then I have misunderstood. If so, then it is in fact a phosphor bronze bearing. This item acts as the lower driveshaft bearing, the pinion shaft rotates within it. It is greased by the top nipple - the one in the water pump housing.
If it is indeed the part you are referring to then there's a strong chance that the pinion shaft is corroded beyond the point where a bearing is necessary or desirable, and many are missing because British Seagull's service department simply omitted them at the time of rebuild. Later models didn't have 'em.
If there isn't one then water pressure from the pump can produce an impressive jet of water from the perforated drive shaft casing.

yes its 1370 ...looks like I will have to turn one up on the lathe
so the square drive shaft must come off the gearbox input shaft ..Is it a sliding fit ? so it will come off after I warm it with the oxy/acet torch or is there a pin ? very rusted may have to replace it .
thanks for comment on piston ..think I will try a 2mm roll pin if its a tight fit OK if no my rough turning will make a brass pin !!!

Thanks charles ...I have aquired Holden spigot bush part no PB106 which is a perfect fit if I machine a polyurethane bush to hold it ( lovely stuff to turn very forgiving)... might even go mad and put a lip seal in there .......OOOOOOO !!!!
My policy is get it running and dont take too long about it or it never gets done ....Once had a 1929 humber ..no one would sell me an engine so I put a Suzuki in ...then they all went mad at me ...perhaps the 2 pak paint did not help either .......toooooo shiney !!!
Wish it was easier to post pictures on here....we just have an old version of the pHp software on this site ....I note the site adminitrator is in Brisbane ,,,

Is A6 the only plug for an AD Its a bad bad fit ...*****
Managed to find a whole dozen of A6 at my local parts shop BUT on measuring the thread depth in the head and the thread on the plug it turns out the plug electrodes are recessed inside the plug hole.
This is not good for combustion /easy ignition . The end of the plug thread should be level with the inside of the combustion chamber so the inlet gasses flow around the plug electrodes . There is at least 8mm clearance between head and piston at the plug location ....So is there a longer reach plug available ? ...Well I know there is but the days of having all the books on my desk and champion technical phone no available are gone .....( thank god )
Anybody used a 18-12mm adaptor to get an extended nose plug in there ?
