In an other post I asked advice on the removal of inner and outer exhaust removal. That also implied the dismantling of the cylinder and the cylinder head. Having ordered and received new parts I am now starting on the rebuild. I would like your views on the use of sealing compound in combination with new gaskets. In this case the cylinder head jointing to the cylinder and the joint of the inner exhaust to the cylinder.
Regarding the cylinderhead the manual states I should use a high temperature R.T.V sillicone compound. I have Loctite sillicone compound 5920 for up to 350 celsius. so far so good. In the forum however I see debates pro and con on the use of such compounds. Most of those do not regard the Kingfisher. So what should I do: use it or not?
My next question is should I use the same for the joint of the inner exhaust to the cylinder ( in combination with the paper gasket).
Looking forward to your views!

With regard to the head gasket use your silicon but only a small amount, it's perfect for the job.
On the inner exhaust after removing your old inner you will have noticed how much the cast aluminium has corroded, to restrict this corrosion I stick the gasket to the inner exhaust with a lot of RTV, I glue the gasket to the inner exhaust before final assembly by resting the gasket on an greased glass sheet with a couple of weights on the inner to ensure an even layer of RTV on the ally casting, remove from the glass sheet after 24 hours & clean all the RTV from the holes in the gasket & make sure the gasket does not obscure the water flow, return & the exhaust by trimming with a scalpel.
Remove the two 8mm studs that hold the inner exhaust in place & replace with stainless 8mm cap headed bolts to ease future removal, refit the inner exhaust using a thin wipe of waterproof grease between the gasket & cylinder, use the same grease on the contact faces & "O" ring when refitting the outer exhaust tube.

Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot.

Thank you very much Charles. This is a very clear and very informative "How to do" explanation. I learned a lot. I will print your text and stick it to the relevant page in my manual. I will keep you informed about the results.
