i followed tide out this morning, high water this morning@ 11:37 at mostyn dock, catching a few cod in the nets. weather blew up and my newly acquired marina 5hp 2008 got swamped and would not start again. i am not even going to say guess what happened next. but i will the 4 and a half clutch less gull started fourth pull and saved me rowing 3 miles.
however at home now log burner glowing can of Guinness in hand and just cod bones left on plate.
i can not praise these engines enough for what ever they are used for.
i am aware some guys just restore and admirer these beauties for what they are, well that works for me .

In my experience, once a gull is going, unless it is completely swamped, it will generally keep going.
However if it gets wet when stopped, can be a problem. But at least you can get to most of the parts and dry with a rag to restore life. Usually.
As my gull is used on a tender, it spends a bit of time on the pushpit under an upturned gorilla bin. That does the job of fending off following seas, spray and rain!

hi CI i like to keep things simple when cooking fish, 20 mins under grill squeeze of fresh lemon, meat always left on the bone.
no water ingress with the mariner just electrics took a soaking all dried out and lots of wd40 . running fine now.
the seagull was on back of boat when wave washed over but had outboard cover on. just ran it in a tank of fresh water and back in the garage
ready for next trip.

i picked this up a while back and have only used it twice the previous owner said it was used on a boat as a standby but kept in wooden box.
who knows but it looks to me in clean untouched condition.

You have to hand it to British Seagull. They knew what they were doing back then.
Even today, they still put many modern outboards to shame. You can now testify to that....
Not fast, but very dependable.
Rugged simplicity all the way with these, probably why they've stood the test of time so well.
