Seagulls on gumtree

Post by AusOB_Collector »

Hello all
Recently there has been an influx of seagulls placed on gumtree, with most of them Having been modified. Right now, there's a pair of 102's (AD) up for sale, and in the ad if you look closely you can see that the exhaust tube of one of the 102's has been put back with the water outlet/telltale being on the port side.
Really quite sad seeing what people have done I them, however ingenious the fixes are.

Is gumtree a good place to look for seagulls in Australia.
I have it in mind to put together a small boat and outboard whilst spending extended periods over there from uk visiting our grandchildren around the Noosa river area in Queensland.

It isn't a bad place to look for seagulls, but here in WA all the seagulls for sale are ridiculously overpriced, not so bad in the eastern states.
I'm sure you will find something to fit the bill.

Hugz
looks as though they're both "bowtie props" from what i can see.

Icedentally, the water outlet pipe can be fitted on either side of the exhaust tube. All depends on whereabouts the fitting is placed on the top of the block!
(looks much better along the tiller side though, aesthetically balanced)

Nice...

Again just been browsing gumtree, it really annoys me when someone posts something like this.
These days almost everyone has access to google etc. to look at things, but instead they choose to post what they think is very old and very rare, when the item actually isn't very old or rare. They could quite easily look on this great site and find lots of info on them.
Take a peek at this.

Personally, I wouldn't pay more than $60 AU for that; poor thing.

Hmmm

The 102, is it a seagull?
The cylinder head looks odd, the tank looks odd, and a the gearbox, I have not seen that type before.
Don't think I have seen an AHC before.

Bargepusher 102 gearbox with "very odd" drain/fill plugs. (shouldn't have anything on them at all)
Thumb throttle is way too long for a 102 (looks weird)
Tiller grip is too new
Fuel pipe non original
Core plugs look as though they are non original (but from 10 feet away look correct, so not entirely sure on that one)
Inlet cover is too new. shouldn't have a choke shutter
Not 100 percent sure whether a 3 blade prop is correct for an early 102plus (looks a bit odd to me, better with a 4 blade prop)

LS looks like it might be hiding a multitude of sins under the wraps! There again the chrome might be very good hence why it's wrapped up for protection?...
although i have been wrong in the past.....

bit of a gamble on both of them but they show promise with some carefull thought.

Well, Keith P recognised it - the cylinder head has been cracked and welded back on or replaced with a flat piece of metal to keep it running.
Strange how people can't keep seagulls together with the right parts etc and how their repairs are relatively ingenious but sometimes don't do the job.

Anyway, off for some fishing!

Wittecarra creek (5min out of Kalbarri) is where we beach fish (brought a beach rod with us) but haven't caught anything yet, estuary fishing day after tomorrow from the dinghy and tomorrow to geraldton to the old outboards (I'll give you a buzz when I'm there).
Can catch snapper, Tailor, whiting, mangrove Jack, mulloway, tarwhine and blue ringed octopus  !!

It's amazing how many people have recognised and commented on the seagull, we've been here almost 3 days and already 4 people have came up and recounted their memories with seagulls.
Got 3 knots with the seagull and a 3.7 savage tinny, and 1 knot against the wind and tide.

Happy
