EFNR What should i know before Buying?
I have been offered an EFNR and am most likely going to. But what should i know before hand, and can it really be run on 25:1 long turn.
its lived in land and got used a few times a year and all ways on 25:1. fuel .

Gearbox can be a bit of a problem.
Make sure it goes in an out of gear, and when in gear stays in gear.
Complicated to mend.
Rest of engine is same a silver century basically.

Are these the motor with the very expensive crank shaft that cannot be bought any more?

Re: EFNR What should i know before Buying?
No this is the very common Century/Silver Century/102 crank.
It's usually only the gearbox that can be difficult if the linkage goes.
I've just been down to the boat to run up my EFNRL. Empty tank. Empty can. Just got home; forgot to go to fill the can up on the way. Pathetic.
I have a spare one in the workshop waiting for attention. It has a completely corroded block, but everything else is Ok except for a layer of the dreaded silver spray-can paint.

yep
gearboxes are tricky to fix but not too bad.
the powerhead's are very easy by comparison, most parts are readily available.
i've got one with linkage problems at the moment but i'm getting there slowly.
reverse gear is very handy to have, especially when manouvering away from the dock.

Has anyone got a diagram, or pictures or any information on the EFNR gear box? Please.

Re: EFNR What should i know before Buying?
I've only got this: Pretty simple, two crown wheels one forwards one backwards and the shaft slides in and out so the pinion cog engages with one or the other and neutral in between. I could be wrong.
I have one somewhere. If I remember correctly I buggered my back getting it into a wheely bin and so hid it in the back of the lower dungeon never to be seen again. Probably covered in bat guarno by now. Very heavy motor!
The main problem with them if I recall was the salt corroded the hole that the gear change rod went through causing it to be tight. An easy fix. They use a different prop shear spring and use 90 oil. I guess being a later longshaft it would be non height adjustable which I reckon is stupid. I need to modify an engine mount with a bigger diameter to fit the the larger drive shaft. Does the rubber cone that locks the thrust block slide up and down the shaft? I'm assuming it is the same as the kingfisher and osprey.
Been a tad wet in Sydney...people have drowned... did that make the news abroad?
Managed to get the plumber out and he unblocked the drain, some seaweed was blocking it, Sydney Harbour is now back to the correct level, had to adjust the ballcock level too...all good.

Some sharks got trapped in a Westfields Shopping Centre. They will be turned into fish and chips shortly or sushi.

When the tide go's out, can you pleas check the dungeon, and see if the is the lighting coil for one of then in amongst, the bat droppings and dead sharks.
Please ?
Also thanks for the gearbox information.
I found one in Tasmania, with a large amount of help from a pirate from Bruny island. and its being shipped to Brisbane.
So thank you to all the Tasmanian seagull nuts involved. It would have been imposable without your generosity.

I'm not surprised your viewing that as a keeper Hugs that's only the second new one I've seen in 25 years since Seagull last had them as a stock item!
These only fit on electronic CDI ignition Seagulls.

Didn't think those alternators were that rare or desireable. I tried to give them away and couldn't so I ended up throwing 3 in the trash, one new in the box

Seems a shame to dump Seagull bits Michael, there must be someone on that little island that would have been only too willing to adopt them.
Though there are not many racers who would want to lose 100 watts of engine power & gain a extra kilo of weight!
