Hi everyone,
Im currently in the process of restoring / tuning a Seagull 170 longshaft
My next job is to remove the exhaust silencer to clean the exhaust port but I cannot seem to remove the aluminium tube from the bottom of the cylinder block.
Im worried about damaging the tube, Ive tried applying some heat but currently to no avail.
Has anybody got any advice that could help me to remove the tube?
Cheers,
Tom

Re: 170 Silencer Tube Removal
Tom if you've removed all the M6 fasteners holding it in place, it can only be corrosion & gasket goo holding it in place, unless your inner exhaust tube looks in perfect condition don't use that as a lever, put a piece of wood against the base of it, for protection, & tap with a hammer. (inner exhaust)
I've just read your question again & now realise your talking about the outer exhaust tube, there is a "O" ring & sometimes a M4 caphead screw holding it in place, hold your cylinder between two bits of wood in the vice (end to end) & use the end of the exhaust as a lever, give it a wiggle, it should start to move. (outer exhaust)

Re: 170 Silencer Tube Removal
Thanks for the speedy response Charles,
Do you mean the grub screws that are wound into the block?
I couldn't see any other m6 fastenings.
The outer exhaust tube seems to be just pressed on. In my manual I can't see any hard fixings?

I've now corrected my first post.
It is pressed on & held with corrosion & "O" ring!
