turning interference on ESC

Post by bruce nickerson »

When set at the first 2 forward tilt settings, the starboard turning is limited by interference with either the shift lever interfering with the retaining caliper/thrust lock handle; or the nuts/studs and engine suport lugs interfering with the C Clamps.

Help please?

I don't think the seagulls are designed to run when tilted.

Chris, I'm not sure I understand your response.

If the motor is used on a boat with a vertical transom, the proper position for positioning the engine vertically would require using the first forward tilt setting, in which case there would be the interference I noted.

Am I missing something here?

Chris:

it is an ESC 123E5, which charlesp has identified as a 1975 Model 75, Silver Century Clutch Drive.

Appreciate your patience and help.

A couple of thoughts.
Are you sure that the motor is fitted with the correct mounting bracket?
Is your transom acutely raked?
British Seagull suggested the use of a tapered hardwood block between the transom and bracket for acutely raked transoms (service sheet 14).
A photograph would be helpful.

Stephen:

If transom were acutely raked there would be no interference. This intereference would occur with a veritcal transom and the motor set vertically.

Bought motor used so not sure it is proper mounting bracket, but have no indication it is not. Seems to be heavier than bracket on my CSC.

The question is moot anyway as transoms on which I intend to use it are neither vertical nor severely raked but rather have moderate rakes, and in such a situation there would be no interference. Just curiosity.
