I should be testing the engine in 20ish hours.

I Googled what to use to dress a copper head gasket and, it seems, times have changed.
Black RTV is what I will be applying.

a little black heat proof enamel paint on that block and you'd "almost" never know it had been repaired.

I have some POR-15 left over from I can't remember what (it was only a couple weeks ago too )
I am going to see how it holds up to Seagull operating temps. I wouldn't think the cylinder block runs more then 130°-140°F.

I've been impressed with POR-15 so far. It sticks like epoxy and seals rust for a very long time. I have a car with rusty quarter panel that I'm monitoring going on 12 years after application. Still no rust!

Turns out, my half a day has turned into "running kids around to give my wife a break" day!
I was able to "plane" the head early this morning. I used a piece of 80 grit taped to a piece of plate glass.
Very glad I did that....no way it would have sealed otherwise.

I am sure it will be fine, my race century had a crack that I epoxied, it has lasted for years.

You can anneal the head gasket to reuse it, heat to cherry red then let cool or quench.

A small amount of RTV and you will be good to go.

I was about to take my aforementioned rosebud to the head gasket. Then I realized the time!
I missed the hardware store by 8 minutes so I'll have to wait 'till tomorrow to purchase 4 5/16X24X1" studs, nuts and washers.

Edit: Also, The Yank method for annealing copper is to soot with acetylene and then heat with a carborizing flame until all soot has been burned off.
I'm not certain I trust myself cherrying a multi layer copper head gasket made of .015" sheets.
