My acidic solution while it reacts, I see bubbles and greasy stuff coming out of the free water inlet. Maybe the crud has some oil/grease trapped inside?
Oh, crud is also yellow and hard.

as you said earlier, the "older" blocks with the brass core plugs really do look COOL.
