4 stroke outboards

I have a 6hp Suzuki 4 stroke (new) . Seems to be getting good reports in the press (F & B small craft section) Very wet and windy - so haven't had it on the boat yet.
Starts well and is fairly quiet - lighter than most 6 hp's.

Many of the familiar "big names" now rebadge Tohatsus, at least for the smaller engines in their ranges.

Whatever you feel inclined to look at compare it with a Tohatsu You may well find they are the same. If not Tohatsu then very probably another of the far-eastern brands.
Eg Suzuki or Yamaha.

Evinrude is not the brand it once was.... sadly.

I would suggest 2 strokes with injection in any case. Lighter, reliable and won't have the consumption a regular 2 stroke has that use a carburetor.

I think you will find that BRP have now dropped the Johnson brand name.

I chartered a yacht out to sail to the Scillies a few years ago. A dinghy and outboard was essential. The little honda that came with the yacht was excellent. 4-stroke with centrifugal clutch and small integral fuel tank. Turn the fuel on, open the choke and it started first pull. Leave on about 1/3 choke and it warmed on a fast tickover with no enrichment or drive to the prop. Pumped water well. Dive into the dinghy open the throttle off you go. Could be lifted with one hand as well. All round an excellent product.

I would always look at Honda products, (Unless it has 2 wheels of course - Then it's Triumph for me)

Tohatsu or Yamaha.It's about as simple as that. A mate has a Yamaha 9.9 4 stroke for YEEEEEEERS...Always starts and NEVER gave the slightest bother.
