uneven running in a tank

Post by rabbit »

Has anyone got some more info on if running in a test tank that may be a bit small (wheeliebin) can cause the motor (4.5 hp non clutch silver C) to run unevenly especially at wider throttle ? carb clean and fine ... fuel is fresh .. havent tested it yet on the water but curious if this is a common query. Is a wheeliebin considered too small or should it run OK in that. I guess I will know when I get out there .... some forum comments help but none definitive that I can find..low throttle seems OK but motor surges at higher revs.

In a test tank with the prop on water circulation is quite possible to fail. The water after a while will become a mixture of air and water so the prop will meet a variation of resistances.

In case the prop was on, remove it and try again. Be careful not to over rev without the prop, over revving could lead to a part failure (bearings, crankshaft, con rod etc).
I love the 10600/145 turns!!!

+1 Take the prop of and try it out. As Stelios said. Do not over rev the motor to the moon. The best and only way to do it is to take it out on the water on a boat.

Is this the right moment to suggest you need a weed free prop?
