The Weldability of a Seagull?

So, I just picked up this great motor, but the tiller is snapped off. You can almost discern from the photo that it's a clean break.
In the great experience of the forum, is this a weldable repair? Or does it need to be replaced? I've got the throttle zip-tied to
the mounting bracket for now, and as I'll be using the boats rudder to steer with the seagull fixed in position, I don't really need
the tiller, but for completeness sake and if the motor wants to be used on another boat, it would be nice to have that tiller.

You could weld it
however,
it'll work out cheaper & neater to replace the crankcase half

I think both halves should be replaced as crankcases are pairs.

Cast aluminium tends to absorb oil into it's pores but as this break is in a non oily area a good tig welder should be able to weld this with little problem.

When the tiller arm stubb was broken off, it is highly unlikley that this happened through normal wear & tear, the usual cause for this problem is, that it fell over whilst leaning against a wall, this type of impact will often distort the bottom half of the crankcase spoiling the sealing faces between the 2 halves, before you strip the crankcase for welding, cover these faces with very soapy water to see if it's blowing bubbles when you run it or try to run it.
