Not that fine, gearbox looked a bit worked on, and bits missing.

It has gone by the look of it.

Some one spoke to him, or how would he know about JM numbers

Gearbox looks poor, has had a bodged repair to end cap, original cap missing, looks like it is held on with screws.

I guess the fine thread on the end of the gearbox is non existent.

Hard gearbox to repair, rest looks not too bad, thumbscrews are wrong.

That would make that gearbox casing scrap then, for restoration purposes. No mention of the condition of the water jacket, very risky way of spending 500 plus. No thanks. Far more interesting engines around for a lot less than this.

No bids then. Seller should have let the original auction run. I wonder why he relisted it with such a high starting price?

It is back, If I had not bought a new car this week I would be tempted.

Lots going for it, need to know if cylinder is sound, gearbox is repairable as Bruce has shown.

That would be an extremely difficult bit of machining! I wonder if the housing could be built up by welding in order to have enough metal to cut a new thread? Very tricky.

Cast Ally & Birmabright very difficult to weld as very porus? they absorb oil which burns out when welded.

The reason it was relisted at the higher price was that 14 of you tried to buy it within the first 2 hours that's why they contacted me to find out what they had, hence the pictures with the numbers.
Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot.

The more I think about it, I doubt that gearbox is repairable. Just my opinion for what it is worth. If welding did not work, is there enough metal to be able to machine out to take a bush with the internal left hand thread, and then make a new end cap? Extreme difficulty!
