I use an empty beer can cut in half with a zip tie adjusted ever so nicely through two rough holes.

Brass or bronze would be better is all I meant.

In that I would keep it and not have to drink another beer for every new one.

Okay team we can cut the silliness .Sanity has prevailed to a degree , thank you John .
I had a cat once , oriental type called an ebony mandalay, more like a dog really in nature . Generally I don't care for them much .
Your gif avatar Collector Inspector is very hypnotic , very cool .did you create it ?
Yesterday I got most of the components to make my refuelling system for the Waikato river race . I'm going to use a rubber pump bulb to a modified fuel cap . I figure this is the simplest and hopefully the most reliable . I'll have pictures in the next few days . Does any body else have picture or use other methods they would like to share ?

Chilli burns a lot of fuel , and the flame thrower will use some . I figure a tank every half hour for four hours 2x4 x 2 litres is 16 litres . plus some is about right , Who can tell me how much a Sliver century tank holds .

Team New Zealand's America Cup 72 foot catamaran trains right at my back door , the speed and sheer drama as they sail past at 40 knots plus is a sight to behold and I believe they can do 50 knots or even more , but mum is the word . the best pictures and video is gleaned from the face book page , I find the web page too confusing.
https://www.facebook.com/EmiratesTeamNewZealand
There are many Kiwis in all the campaigns Oracle apart from being funded by an American is full of kiwis including CEO Russell Coutts. and Prada have a replica of Team NZ first 72 and although they can foil I don't think they have a real handle on it yet .
I'm a big follower on the cup , and this year will be very exciting and indeed very interesting to see the next twist and what boats it will be contested and where 8)

Hello chillidog.

Saw this team on a promotional video a little while back, amazing speed, sadly they had a few gear failures at the time and some spectacular pile ups on the film too, hope they have them sorted now!

My interest is from Weymouth speed Week here in the UK, a colleague of mine when I worked on the Thames was the helm on the prototype foil sail boat here to prove it worked. He just missed the record some years ago. He must be in his 70's now so doubt he is still out there, but it has been good to see 'Icarus' lives on!

The interesting thing for the Americias Cup boats is they can only have 3 foils in the water at one time , if four were allowed the boat would be even more stable and have much more righting moment (then it could carry more sail and possibly go faster , in higher wind etc )
I watched Prada and team NZ in a practice race yesterday . I surmise the following .
A collision would probably and most likely be fatal . When boats cross the closing speed could be up to 80 knots .
San Francisco bay will be made to look like a duck pond . These boats travel so fast and cover the ground it does take very long to go anywhere , A big area will be required .
The races won't last very long , because on the above .
It could be very exciting . And potentially very boring if one boat is much faster than the others.

What you need is lots of Seagulls to "pour oil onto the troubled waters".

The US contingent will have their work cut out.

the rule of Americas cup racing H A is you can always improve your boat through the campaign , Dennis Connor was a master at it . even when racing started he was always bringing a few more rabbits out of the hat .
Like an Opera .
It an't over till the fat lady sings .
Less than a month till the Waikato race , been tickling up a few props ready for balancing next week end . got to wet and dry the bottom of the boat, Tap the Fuel tank cap . get the long throttle cable and we are about good to go . Tinkabelle is worried even though we won't be in the same class . but I know he'll have a twenty on each leg with me .
The big worry is we have had no rain for two months and there may be no water in the river by then unless we get some heavy precipitation ~ bet it rains all :( race
The longest Seagull Outboard Race in the World at 142km.

Yeah, couldn't go past Poncho The Chilli Dog 'guarding' the Seagull.....he's either half asleep or 'blissed out'....too cute. :)

Glad you liked the mag. It's a lot of work to produce, and about 20 people contributed to this issue in various ways.

Had asked charlesuk to put a post up on "The Gull newsletter" thread, but I think he's waiting until John gets the mag loaded into the "News" section of the main website. As usual, RexNZ was too quick off the mark and had it up within a few hours of completion. I swear that man never sleeps.... ;)

I was a bit late getting it 'to press' this time, so could not give the guys a few days notice, as I normally do before the embargoed "publication date" of 1st March although, to be honest, I could probably set the 'p/d' whenever.... lol ....the advantages of online publishing - no printer with arbitrary 'deadlines' to conform to!

Next issue would normally be due out in six months (ie: September 1st) but as I'll be packing and organising for the Murray River trip at the end of September, it may have to wait till after the trip....but should be out well before Christmas.
