Re: broken casting
Good idea the A/C in such circumstances. When you assemble add some epoxy to join the fixing with the gasket if it fails.
When I was trying to fix my gearbox I was saying: Too simple construction to fail for insignificant reasons.
But it did fail where the double red line is located. Let us know when you test it and keep in mind the appropriate depth, it is very important.

I love the 10600/145 turns!!!

Re: broken casting
It works ! A steady stream, even at low revs !!!!
Excuse the smoke, that was some old fuel, last used on the 40+ a year ago, probably around 8:1 !!!!!
Now I'll toss that blue tank, fit a 'proper' one, and mount it on the transom to match the 40 year old boat designers plan.

Re: broken casting
That's an innovative test bin. Thanks for the idea.

Re: broken casting
You are welcome Hugz, trouble with a 'long-shaft' is that it tends to topple over. I am eyeing off a wheely bin that I "found"

Re: broken casting
Also check that a/ you have the correct impellor, and b/ that is facing the correct way up.
One of your pics shows the impellor, and I think it is the wrong way around.
Gull water pumps are centrifugal and non contact so rely on the blades of the impellor to act like scoops and throw the water at the exit passage leading to the copper water tube.

Re: broken casting
Check again Moody Blue, Doesn't the 8 legged one scoop & the 4 legged plastic one push?
Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot.
Re: broken casting
Some later 40+ and 40- had sealed gear boxes. Were the impellers for those different than earlier 40+/- impellers? Thanks, WB
Re: broken casting
Not sure Charles, but when chasing faults one should assume someone has been there before and maybe placed the impellor wrong way up?
Cheers

Re: broken casting
Then how do you explain the "TOP" moulded into the four bladed plastic one & the flange?
Would the flange act as a resistance to the water inlet for the impeller?

Re: broken casting
Depends on which way you assemble the impellor and drive shaft as to which way could be described as TOP
Logically you should view or place the word TOP facing the motor. BUT I have dismantled enough seagulls now to come across impellors upside down and due to rust on the drive tube on the last one, it will be assembled with the drive tube and upper leg already in place.
